ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION
The Slovenian Small Animal Veterinary Association (SiSAVA) was founded in 1989. Its first president was the pioneer of small animal medicine in Slovenia, Prof. Vjekoslav Simčič, DVM, PhD.
At the beginning the association consisted of only 20 members. The main purpose of the association is to organise congresses for veterinary surgeons working in the field of small animal medicine.
GOVERNING ENTITIES - EXECUTIVE BOARD
The General Assembly is the supreme decision making body of SiSAVA, consisting of all the members of the association.
The Executive Board is the supreme administrative body of SiSAVA, consisting of seven members. It performs all the tasks specified in the statute and other matters authorized by the SiSAVA General Assembly.
SiSAVA HAS BEEN A MEMBER
of the Federation of Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (FECAVA) and the World Small Animal Veterinary Association (WSAVA) since 1992.
The rapidly growing membership confirms the quality and the internationally oriented work of the association. SiSAVA is also closely connected with the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine of the University of Ljubljana, which actively participates in the organisation of congresses.

FEDERATION OF COMPANION ANIMAL VETERINARY ASSOCIATIONS
Through its member associations, the Federation of Companion Animal Veterinary Associations (FECAVA) represents more than 25,000 companion animal veterinarians in 39 European countries. FECAVA strives to improve the veterinary care of pets through professional development. It also provides a voice for companion animal issues at European level and works closely with other European veterinary organisations and stakeholders.
FECAVA is strongly committed to topics such as:
- One health
- Animal welfare
- The human-animal bond
- Continuing education
- Antimicrobial resistance
- The availability of medicines

The WSAVA is a global community of more than 200,000 veterinarians worldwide drawn from 113 member associations. Its mission is working to advance the health and welfare of companion animals throughout the world and to speak on behalf of companion animal veterinarians globally.
Its core activities are based around four key pillars:
- The advancement of companion animal welfare.
- The creation of globally relevant ‘Standardization Guidelines’ in key areas of veterinary care.
- The provision of continuing education (CE) for companion animal veterinarians globally.
- Increasing understanding of the importance of companion animals in the One Health movement.
FACULTY OF VETERINARY
MEDICINE OF THE UNIVERSITY
OF LJUBLJANA
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine is a member of the University of Ljubljana. It implements the national higher education programme in veterinary medicine, the national research and development programme and other educational, research, development and advisory activities related to veterinary medicine.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine performs:
- Undergraduate Level 2 single cycle Master's degree programme in Veterinary Medicine;
- Postgraduate study programmes Biomedicine and Environmental Protection;
- Postgraduate professional development programmes Veterinary Medicine for Small Animals; Diseases and Healthcare of Birds, Small Mammals and Reptiles; Poultry Health and Poultry Production Systems; Buiatrics; Veterinary Public Health and Food Safety.
The Faculty of Veterinary Medicine also runs the state-of-the-art diagnostic service of National Veterinary Institute.
